May is Mental Health Awareness Month
As a dear friend said recently, "There's so much foolishness going on right now."
That's a great way to put it. With everything going on in the world today, plus the stigma that can sometimes come with discussing mental health, I want to be part of the solution.
Celebrating Women’s History Month
Let's pause for a moment and recall the amazing women in our lives. I think of my dad's mother, my first-grade teacher, a pastor's wife from my childhood church, my mom and her lifelong friends, and my aunt. I also celebrate my amazing colleagues and friends who make history, break barriers, and show future generations what is possible. I look at my nieces, and I'm encouraged by how they will shape history. These are just the women I know. There are so many historical women to celebrate as well.
Starr Leadership is 1 Year Old!
It’s been 1 Year!
One year ago, I created my business, registered it with the state and federal government, secured my website, and began opening business bank and credit card accounts. I can’t believe it’s been a year already! As I’ve been reflecting on the last year, I have come so far and learned much. I thought I’d share what I learned…
Can Exercise Make You Smarter?
It appears it can! This meta-study concluded that while all exercise has brain benefits, resistance training, and aerobic exercise have the most overall benefits. I'm 6 months into my habit, and it finally feels part of my day. As a middle-aged woman, I use strength training to combat bone and muscle loss.
The Un-Do List
Recently, through her Fierce Entrepreneurs page, Lynnette Embree posted an article about unsubscribing from email lists and how freeing it was. That got me thinking that my To-do list is extra-long this time of year. I still have all the work To-dos, plus coordinating the holidays: gifts, shipping, meals, cooking, parties, calendar, etc. What if I created an Un-do list instead of a long To-do list? This would remind me of what I am intentionally NOT doing this holiday season.
5 Leadership Lessons from Early Morning Coached Workouts
Several months back, I joined LifeSport Coaching's TriClub. I was starting my own business, which can be quite lonely, and I wanted to ensure I had a community to support and enable my fitness goals. While, the LifeSport coaches and community have certainly delivered that, I’ve also gained a lot of knowledge to make me a better cyclist and athlete.
Those lessons apply to leadership as well. Here are 5 lessons I’ve picked up while pedaling on my bike trainer on Zwift and Zoom with the Life Sport coaches.
It's That Time of Year!
Do you have a plan for 2024? A personal plan for YOU. If you haven’t ever done a personal plan, I encourage you to give it a try. I outline my process below, it’s not quick or easy but it’s worth the time and effort.
